About us… the concept.
Back in the 90’s I opened my first bistro in Mill Street, Stafford….Pastiche Bistro. With the help of my team (including our then head Chef at Lichfield, Mark) we opened our second bistro here in Lombard Street in 1999 and grew to a group of nine. I exited the business through a sale in 2005 and myself and now business partner Mark (the creative one doing the cooking!) bought it back from the receiver in 2008 We launched 1709 the Brasserie, rebranding to Bistro 1709 later. Following the pandemic, we are returning to our roots of fixed price, fresh, chef prepared meals with a simple friendly service. and an A la Carte menu running Friday & Saturday Evenings to make the weekends a little more special! And the name, it’s not the age of the building, it’s Samuel Johnson’s birth year.
Thanks for visiting us, we hope you enjoy your experience.
